Music School São Teotónio, Piano department
General conditions
- The 18th International Piano Competition and 4th Nacional Organ Competition of Music School São Teotónio will take place on 2nd, 3rd and 4th May 2025, in the auditorium of School São Teotónio(piano) and Chapel of Holy House of Compassion of Coimbra.
- The contest is open to students from Specialized / Vocational Music Schools and all students who are interested, provided that the programs and the ages of the Category in which they are enrolled are respected.
- Registrations must be submitted by 22th April, 2025.
- Entries will be admitted, in order of arrival, in a maximum of 15 in each category.
- It will be considered the age of the competitors until the 31st December of 2024, being proven with the presentation of the C.C;
- In addition to the application form, the payment must be made:
- Categories A, B, C and D (Piano and Organ)- 50 € (for EMST students it will be 40 €);
-Categories E - 60€ (for EMST students - € 50),
-Categories F - 70€;
- Category - Piano ensemble 4 hands 60€ (30€/30€),(for EMST students - 50€ (25€/25€))

- Payment will be made by bank transfer and the respective proof must be submitted during the registration process. Only after payment confirmation will the registration be considered valid;
- In case of cancellation the amount of the registration fee will not be refunded.
- Candidates must provide the jury with photocopies of the scores they will interpret at the time of registration.
- The competitions of the Organ categories will be held on an organ with a manual and pedalboard, with the keyboard being divided. Thus, the repertoire presented by the competitors must be adapted to the characteristics of the instrument;
- On the 2nd May will be the Concert of Laureates with the delivery of diplomas and prizes for the Organ Competition, and on the 4th May will be the Concert of Laureates with the delivery of diplomas and prizes for the Piano The winning competitors must be present at the prize-giving ceremony and those nominated by the jury must participate in the closing concert, otherwise they will not receive their respective diplomas and prizes. This concert will not be paid;
- The organization may carry out photographic, audio or video records of competitors' competitions and other presentations integrated in the contest for reporting purposes, and no claim or monetary compensation may be required by the participants.

Category A – up to 8 years (3 min. max)

Category F - higher degree (30 min. max)

Category Piano ensemble (4 hands) (15 min. max)

Organ:
Category A – up to 9 years: (5 min. max)
Two contrasting pieces of the contestant choice
Category B – 10 up to 12 years: (7 min. max)

Category C – 13 up to 15 years: (15 min. max)
Three contrasting pieces of the contestant choice
*The pieces must be executed without repetitions and each test cannot exceed the indicated maximum duration.
Performances
- Piano performances will take place in the auditorium of Music School São Teotónio.
- Organ performances will take place in the Chapel of Holy House of Compassion
- The organization of the competition will determine a maximum number of candidates per category. Registrations will be admitted on a first-come basis.
- All performances will be public, pieces must be played by heart, except for the Category Piano ensemble (4 hands or 6 hands) and Organ Categories
- After submitting the application, the works to be performed in the Competition cannot be changed.
- The order of presentation of the candidates will be determined in alphabetical order within the category in which they compete.
- The jury will consist of the following elements:

- The decisions of the jury are sovereign and there will be no appeal.
Prizes
The following prizes will be awarded:

1st, 2nd, 3rd Prizes – Diploma, didactic material
- Category E
1st Prize – Diploma, 150€
2nd Prize – Diploma,100€
3rd Prize – Diploma, 50€
- Category F
1st Prize - Diploma, 300€
- Concert with the Orquestra Classica do Centro as part of the 2026 season (repertoire to be defined later with the orchestra)
- Recital as part of the Young Talents series at the Teatro Municipal do Porto - Teatro Rivoli
2nd Prize – Diploma, 200€
3rd Prize – Diploma, 100€
- All participants will be entitled to a participation certificate.
Final dispositions
- The jury may not award any of the prizes, if they wish so.
- The jury may award honorable mentions, if they wish so.
- Omitted cases will be decided in accordance with the competition organization.
